Pickleball Round Robin for 8 Players: Rotation Charts for 1 and 2 Courts (Plus 12 and 16)

Copy-ready rotation charts for 8, 12, and 16 players, checked so nobody gets the same partner twice.

October 13, 2026 · Pickleball Plus Team

With 8 players on 2 courts, a doubles round robin takes 7 rounds, and in those 7 rounds every player partners with every other player exactly once. Number your players 1 through 8, post the chart below, and play one game per round. That's the whole setup.

Pickleball round robin 8 players, 2 courts

Every player partners each of the other 7 players exactly once. Everyone plays every round, nobody sits, and you face any given opponent at least once and at most 3 times.

Round Court 1 Court 2
1 1 & 2 vs 3 & 4 5 & 6 vs 7 & 8
2 1 & 3 vs 5 & 7 2 & 4 vs 6 & 8
3 1 & 4 vs 6 & 7 2 & 3 vs 5 & 8
4 1 & 5 vs 2 & 6 3 & 7 vs 4 & 8
5 1 & 6 vs 4 & 7 2 & 5 vs 3 & 8
6 1 & 7 vs 2 & 8 3 & 5 vs 4 & 6
7 1 & 8 vs 3 & 6 2 & 7 vs 4 & 5

If you only need the chart, you're done. Write the numbers on a whiteboard, assign each player a number, and start Round 1. The rest of this post covers how the format works, charts for other group sizes, and how to keep it moving on the day.

How does a pickleball round robin work?

A round robin is a format where everyone plays against everyone else (or as close to it as the numbers allow), instead of losers going home. In doubles, there are two common versions, and it's worth knowing which one you're running before you start.

Partner rotation round robin. This is what the charts in this post are. You play as an individual and get a new partner every round. Your result is your own: if you win a game, you get the win, even though your partner changes every time. This is the go-to for club nights, ladder nights, and mixed-level groups because nobody is stuck with one partner all evening, for better or worse.

Fixed-partner round robin. You sign up as a team and keep the same partner all event. Teams rotate so each team plays every other team. This is the usual format for tournament pool play, where the top teams from each pool advance to a bracket.

Round robin pickleball rules for scoring

Use the normal rules of the game for each match. The two usual ways to cap a round:

  • Games to 11, win by 2. The classic. Rounds take different amounts of time on different courts, so the early finishers wait a bit. If you want to brush up on side-out versus rally scoring, see our pickleball scoring guide.
  • Timed rounds. Set a timer (for example 12 or 15 minutes) and whoever is ahead when it goes off wins. This keeps all courts on the same clock, which matters once you're running three or four courts.

Some groups also play a single game to 15 or use rally scoring to speed things up. Pick one and announce it before Round 1.

How to tally round robin standings

For partner rotation, track each player individually:

  1. Wins first. Most wins takes the top spot.
  2. Point differential second. For each game, take your team's points minus your opponents' points, and add them up across all your games. A player who won 11-3 and lost 9-11 is at +6.
  3. Head-to-head or points scored as a final tiebreak if two players are still level.

In the charts below where everyone plays the same number of games, raw wins are a fair comparison. When the count of games differs, rank by win percentage instead.

Pickleball rotation for 8 players on 1 court

Only one court? You can still run a fair round robin. It takes 8 rounds, 4 players sit each round, and everyone plays exactly 4 games and sits out 4.

Nobody partners the same player twice. Not every pair gets to partner (one court only fits so many games), but everyone faces every other player at least once and at most twice.

Round Court 1 Sitting out
1 4 & 7 vs 2 & 1 3, 5, 6, 8
2 8 & 5 vs 6 & 3 1, 2, 4, 7
3 2 & 5 vs 8 & 1 3, 4, 6, 7
4 7 & 6 vs 4 & 3 1, 2, 5, 8
5 3 & 8 vs 4 & 1 2, 5, 6, 7
6 2 & 7 vs 6 & 5 1, 3, 4, 8
7 1 & 7 vs 8 & 6 2, 3, 4, 5
8 5 & 3 vs 4 & 2 1, 6, 7, 8

With 4 sitting every round, this is a social format more than a fitness one. If the waiting is too much, you might be better off with a challenge-court style night instead; our guide to king of the court pickleball explains how winners-stay works. And if you end up with an odd number like 5 or 7, see how to play pickleball with 3, 5, 6, or 7 players.

Pickleball round robin for 12 players on 2 courts

Twelve players on 2 courts means 8 play and 4 sit each round. This chart runs 6 rounds. Everyone plays exactly 4 games and sits out 2.

No one repeats a partner, and no one faces the same opponent more than once.

Round Court 1 Court 2 Sitting out
1 2 & 11 vs 12 & 1 7 & 9 vs 4 & 6 3, 5, 8, 10
2 1 & 6 vs 10 & 12 9 & 5 vs 3 & 8 2, 4, 7, 11
3 3 & 10 vs 4 & 8 2 & 5 vs 11 & 7 1, 6, 9, 12
4 2 & 4 vs 5 & 8 3 & 9 vs 11 & 10 1, 6, 7, 12
5 11 & 12 vs 7 & 8 1 & 2 vs 6 & 9 3, 4, 5, 10
6 6 & 12 vs 4 & 3 5 & 7 vs 10 & 1 2, 8, 9, 11

Pickleball round robin 12 players, 3 courts

Add a third court and nobody sits. This is the full version: 11 rounds, everyone plays every round, and every player partners each of the other 11 players exactly once. You face any given opponent at least once and at most 3 times.

Round Court 1 Court 2 Court 3
1 6 & 7 vs 5 & 2 1 & 9 vs 10 & 3 8 & 12 vs 4 & 11
2 12 & 9 vs 8 & 2 6 & 10 vs 4 & 7 1 & 3 vs 5 & 11
3 1 & 11 vs 6 & 2 12 & 4 vs 9 & 5 8 & 3 vs 10 & 7
4 12 & 5 vs 10 & 1 8 & 4 vs 2 & 3 11 & 6 vs 7 & 9
5 8 & 9 vs 7 & 1 6 & 3 vs 12 & 10 2 & 11 vs 5 & 4
6 4 & 6 vs 11 & 3 7 & 8 vs 1 & 12 5 & 10 vs 9 & 2
7 3 & 9 vs 12 & 2 11 & 7 vs 10 & 4 6 & 5 vs 1 & 8
8 7 & 3 vs 1 & 5 4 & 2 vs 12 & 6 8 & 11 vs 10 & 9
9 1 & 2 vs 11 & 10 4 & 9 vs 7 & 5 12 & 3 vs 8 & 6
10 12 & 7 vs 2 & 10 8 & 5 vs 11 & 9 3 & 4 vs 6 & 1
11 8 & 10 vs 4 & 1 12 & 11 vs 3 & 5 6 & 9 vs 7 & 2

Eleven rounds is a long session. If you're short on time, play games to 7 or use timed rounds, or stop after a set number of rounds and rank by win percentage. Every player will have played the same number of games no matter where you stop, so the standings stay fair.

Pickleball round robin for 16 players on 4 courts

Sixteen players on 4 courts, 8 rounds, nobody sits. Every player plays 8 games with 8 different partners and never repeats one. You face any given opponent at most twice.

Round Court 1 Court 2 Court 3 Court 4
1 15 & 16 vs 5 & 4 1 & 7 vs 13 & 10 8 & 11 vs 14 & 9 3 & 6 vs 12 & 2

How to run a round robin on the day

The chart is the easy part. Keeping a group of 8 to 16 people moving is where round robins fall apart. A few things that help:

Number the players before anyone warms up. Hand out numbers at check-in, or write names next to numbers on a whiteboard. If you have a mix of levels, you can spread stronger players across the numbers, but with a partner rotation everyone pairs with everyone anyway, so it evens out.

Post the chart where everyone can see it. A phone screenshot shared in the group chat, a printout taped to the fence, or the whiteboard. Players should be able to find their next court without asking you.

Call the rounds out loud. "Round 3, Court 1: 1 and 4 against 6 and 7." One person runs the clock and calls rounds. Everyone else just plays.

Keep a score sheet. A simple grid with player numbers down the side and rounds across the top. After each game, write the score for each of the four players (for example "W 11-7" or "L 7-11"). At the end, count wins and add up point differential.

Budget your time. A doubles game to 11 often runs somewhere around 15 to 20 minutes depending on level and scoring, plus a couple of minutes to switch courts. So the 7-round, 8-player chart is roughly a two-hour session. If you have a hard stop, use timed rounds and set the timer so the last round ends on time.

Plan for no-shows. If one person drops out of an 8-player group, you have 7, and the chart above won't work cleanly. Swap to a 7-player rotation (covered in the sibling post linked above) instead of improvising.

Printable round robin charts

Every chart in this post is a plain table, so you can screenshot it on your phone or print this page. A quick tip: print only the chart you need, cross off each round as it finishes, and write scores right beside it. Nobody will lose track of what round it is.

These charts were generated and checked by computer, so the pairings hold up. If you edit a chart by hand (say, swapping two players to avoid a couple partnering), double-check that you haven't created a repeat partner elsewhere.

When to use the app instead

A paper chart is fine for a one-off. If you run round robins every week, or you want results that count for something, the Pickleball Plus games and tournaments features do the bookkeeping for you.

Pickleball Plus runs round robin tournaments, singles or doubles, with seeding, live standings, and scores entered from the court, so nobody has to tally a score sheet at the end. For more casual nights, open-play sessions handle rotation automatically across multiple courts, with modes for paddle stack, winners stay, or a random mixer each round. Every recorded game also moves each player's rating once the opponent confirms the result.

Need a place to host it? Search pickleball courts near me to find courts with enough space for 2 to 4 games at once.

Run your next round robin without the clipboard. Pickleball Plus seeds the players, tracks live standings, and lets players enter scores right from the court. Download Pickleball Plus and set up your next round robin from your phone.

FAQ

How many rounds is a round robin for 8 players?

On 2 courts, 7 rounds lets every player partner every other player exactly once, with nobody sitting out. On 1 court, a fair rotation takes 8 rounds, with 4 players sitting each round and everyone playing 4 games.

How does a pickleball round robin work?

Every player (or team) plays a series of games against different opponents instead of being knocked out. In a partner rotation round robin, you change partners every round and track your own wins. The player with the most wins at the end wins, with point differential as the tiebreaker.

What are the rules for round robin pickleball?

Each game uses standard pickleball rules. The organizer decides the length of each round, usually one game to 11 (win by 2) or a timed round. Standings go by wins first, then point differential.

How do you do a pickleball round robin with 12 players on 3 courts?

Use the 11-round chart above. Everyone plays every round, and every player partners each of the other 11 players exactly once. On 2 courts, use the 6-round chart where 4 players sit each round.

How long does a pickleball round robin take?

It depends on the number of rounds and the game length. Games to 11 often run around 15 to 20 minutes, so a 7-round, 8-player round robin is roughly a two-hour session. Timed rounds make the length predictable.

Is there a free pickleball round robin generator?

The charts in this post cover the most common group sizes and are free to print. If you want the rotation, scoring, and standings handled for you, Pickleball Plus runs round robin tournaments and open-play sessions with automatic rotation.

What is the best pickleball rotation for 8 players?

If you have 2 courts, the 7-round chart is the best option: nobody sits and nobody repeats a partner. With 1 court, use the 8-round chart and accept that half the group sits each round.
