About this court

Pioneer Park in Salt Lake City, UT, United States, provides free public pickleball on a single outdoor concrete court open every day from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The court consists of lines painted onto an existing tennis court surface, offering a no-cost option for casual play without requiring reservations or fees. Its consistent daily hours make it reliably accessible throughout the week. The park holds a 3.9 Google rating across more than 2,180 reviews, reflecting a broad and varied visitor base that extends well beyond pickleball. The park is also home to a weekly summer farmers market and serves as a community gathering point. However, players note that the surrounding environment raises concerns, with multiple visitors mentioning discomfort related to safety and cleanliness throughout the park. Those planning a pickleball session should also be aware that despite being listed with a lights tag, facility notes indicate no lights are actually present on the court. The free-to-play, always-available access may appeal to early risers or those seeking a low-barrier court, but prospective players are encouraged to weigh the on-the-ground conditions before visiting.

Notes

Pioneer Park does not currently have active dedicated pickleball courts… but that is changing soon. Construction is underway through 2026. Salt Lake City has officially started a major redevelopment project for Pioneer Park that will include new pickleball courts as part of the overhaul. Current plans call for six courts alongside upgraded public spaces, lighting, a pavilion, basketball courts, and other amenities. What’s interesting is the vision behind it. The city appears to be trying to turn Pioneer Park into more of an activated downtown community hub rather than just a historic green space. Pickleball is clearly part of that strategy.
